I Solute You

I’m a believer that everyone should have a role model, someone who inspires them to be better, someone who has blazed their own path to success and triumphed in times of difficulty. Often, role models reaffirm to us that our dreams are doable, achievable, and reachable. In fact, they offer us a blueprint or roadmap for where it is that we want to go in life and by using their journey we able able to... Read more »

I Challenge You

A couple of weeks ago I wrote this status on my Facebook page:

“Today, I challenge you to take a leap of faith. Whatever that thing is…that you have been afraid of, intimidated by, ultimately consumed by…that thing you dream of in quiet times and secretly hope, wish, and pray you could do…just do it…start the process, begin the journey, and wherever you land is where God intended.”

It is easy for us to get... Read more »

Watt’s Up!

Ahhh Sephora…I can get lost in that place for hours…on a recent visit to Sephora, you know that little bag you leave with where you spent over a $100 and have nothing to really show for it, I happened to get a pretty awesome freebie. Over the past couple of months I’ve been looking for a awesome highlighting tool that wasn’t powder..BINGO! Benefit’s Watts Up! is amazing. Goes on perfectly smooth with a little bit... Read more »

Set it Free. Let it Go.

There is a power in releasing things.  Whether we classify them as past failures, relationships, ideals, situations, sometimes even success when it goes to our head, they all need evaluation and understanding on a deeper level.

We live in a crazy world. A world that is shaped by the daily need for immediate gratification, perfection, and jammed packed weeks full of one obligation right after the other. And with all that goes on how do... Read more »

In the Nude

My go to nail colors always seem to be in the family of nude and pink. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE fun colors (especially black, yes black) but as far has flexibility with my wardrobe and out of pure ability to be chic, there is something so classic about the nudes/neutrals and pinks.

Also, when competing and attending go-sees/casting calls you will always catch me with one of these colors!

For Every Closed Door

No. Nope. Not at this time. No Thank you. No longer. No.

I’m sure at this point in your life, you have probably have been told “no” more times than you have been told yes and in a number of different ways. In fact, most of us say “no” pretty frequently throughout the day without ever realizing it. But what happens when it’s your dream, passion, life’s work, or well-thought out strategic plan and the... BB Cream Obsessed

As a pageant girl and someone in the modeling industry, I would like to think that I know my make up pretty well. Now, of course, not everything works for everyone but I am absolutely loving the introduction and now craze of BB cream products that are now on the market. My normal morning prep time used to take me at least 15-20 minutes and  I have to be frank and say it was a... Read more »

Stop Thinking.

Yes, you read that right. You see, anyone who knows me knows that I am perfectionist. I critique everything. I spend excessive amounts of time correcting things that are relatively insignificant (i.e. arranging the pillows just right on the couch). And, when it comes to my own personal performance, I am indeed my own worst critic. Now, occasionally that is a great thing. But more often than not, I create a problem that wasn’t there... She asked, I answered!

The other day one of my great friends and pageant sisters, Tamika Hall, asked me to give her readers some tips on how to ace the pageant on stage question. Here’s what I told her:

“Lauren Parkes, pageant coach and pageant veteran with titles such as Miss Delaware Earth, Miss Black Delaware, and first runner-up to Miss Delaware USA 2012 knows all about overcoming interview jitters. “I pray, remember that I am prepared, and remind... Read more »

Truer Than True

I will be the first one to tell you that over the past year, I have shut a number of doors on relationships that no longer had purpose. I don’t say that to be mean or cold but more so to shed light on the fact that at times people will come into your life for a season, to teach you a lesson and once you have learned that lesson, it’s time to let them...
