Behind the Scenes: Pageant Production

Having produced quite a few pageants, each one comes with its own look, feel and creative energy. The thing that I have absolutely fallen in love with over the years is the ability to bring a thousand little pieces together to create an experience for the audience – this of course is easier said than done! With each pageant production, there has been a lesson learned, something to do better next year and always a... Read more »

Saved by the Crown

At some point, we each have wondered about what our unique purpose is in life. What were we put on earth to do? Who are we meant to be? I’m not sure I ever thought about this when I initially stumbled into what became a guiding force in the direction of my now life. At the age of 13, I became infatuated with pageantry. As I channel surfed one evening, I came across the Miss... Read more »

Taking the Time to Enjoy

What a busy couple of months it has been! And, yes, I’m a little late but I hope everyone’s New Year is off to a great start. I’m not one for making New Year Resolutions – I am a believer that at anytime you believe something needs to change that you have the power to do it right then and there. But, as I have enjoyed time with my friends and family over the last... Read more »

Celebrating Diversity

THIS girl is gorgeous. But, more than that she is intelligent, talented, poised, and confident. Nina Davuluri took home one of the most coveted crowns in pageantry only weeks ago and is already demonstrating to the nation why her reign as Miss America is going to be pretty phenomenal. Not too long after being crowned the social media universe buzzed with talk about the history maker, the first Indian American national titleholder in the pageant’s... Read more »

Are you working hard?

I’m all about hard work. Ever heard this quote? Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard. I’m a believer with the proper preparation and amount of hard work and perseverance anything can be accomplished. So today I challenge you…what are you doing to bring your dreams to pass? Are you working hard enough? Most of the time if you are honest with yourself you’ll realize that you could be doing more, spending more... Read more »

Check it Out – I Declare

I am on a constant search for sources of empowerment for not only myself but others. I recently purchased Joel Osteen’s I Declare book and it has been an awesome read. In the book Osteen has included 31 Promises to Speak Over Your Life. I read one every morning as I am preparing for my day and what an awesome source of empowerment! The truth is you can’t lead a positive life with a negative... Read more »

That’s what it’s all about.

I’ve been competing in pageants for a little over a decade (gosh, the more I say that the older I feel). Each pageant experience has taught me something new about myself, allowed me to grow as an individual, and challenge myself to better my presentation for the next competition. There have been a lot of tears along the way, smiles, laughter, and maybe just about every other emotion you could imagine. Along the way one... Read more »

Take a Chill Pill.

Easier said than done. Right? I am notorious for over-thinking and over-analyzing things until I have literally stressed myself out. I am a planner down to the minute. Unfortunately, more than often things do not turn out exactly as planned and usually it’s for the best. After all, worrying does absolutely nothing and there are only so many hours in the day. If you are anything like me, I often find I live out of... Read more »

Uncomfortable.

The simple truth is that change is uncomfortable. We hold on, fight it, rebel against it and maybe even shed a few tears in the process. Very often if we think about it long and hard and look back on all the moments in our life that required change we find that it was needed and paved a path for greatness, fresh perspective, and unchartered territories. Over the last couple of weeks I have embarked... Read more »

You Deserve More.

Have you ever prayed for something so much and then been so sure that it was going to happen only for it not to? I have (hint: Miss Delaware USA). Following the disappointment, you have a billion questions for God, you try to figure out what went wrong, why not you? After all, the Bible does say ask and you shall receive, right? Well, one of my favorite quotes says the following,... Read more »
